Raising the roof, one vertebra at a time.

A strange and amazing thing happened yesterday.  Somehow, my back shifted into alignment.  I feel amazing, and my movements feel amazing.  It's like my spine suddenly became a solid rod, with my head as the top and my body swiveling around it.

I've been recently working my back; doing pull ups and squats, pulling my shoulders back while walking or doing kung fu forms.  I thought it was just a way to get good posture.  Then last night, I was in the middle of a workout.  I was doing squats the aid of a staff for the first time, working on form.  This made me stretch my back.  Somehow, the combination of stretching and activated muscles clicked, and the weirdest feeling came over me.

Have you ever had your back popped?  You know that weirdness that makes you wonder if someone broke something?  I had that, and I stood for a moment to make sure I was fine.  As I was moving, I realized how smooth and even my movements were.  I felt taller and more stable.  Looking in the mirror, I saw the frame of a dancer.  In swing, blues, salsa, ballet and belly, dancers all have their shoulders back.  I now realize that dancing is best done with an aligned spine.

Today, I tried to maintain it as much as possible.  I'm sitting up in my chair, stretching a lot, and walking with my head held high.  Literally.  I'm in the perfect position to march, limbo, run, and squat.  And also fight.  With my spine activated, I can turtle; I can roll my shoulders a bit forward and engage my torso muscles, creating an armor that keeps my arms limber.  I look like a caveman, but an awesomely athletic caveman.

I have a feeling this revelation could very well change my life.  I'll keep you updated on what I find.

I'm still here,

I stand in awe of my body.
